INSET (teacher-training) days

Each school is allowed to set five INSET days each year. These are days on which teachers attend school for training and other tasks, but children do not attend.

The dates of INSET days are agreed by the governing body of the school.

The day can vary according to the different needs of the students – here is a general outline.  If you want to know more precise details please ask your child’s teacher, for every class and most young people this day can vary to include more or less or different .

9.00 – 9.30 Registration, SPARC, PSE, Reading, personal care.

9.30 – 10.30 Session 1 

10.30 – 11.00 breaks – this includes PSHE, Communication, self-help and independence teaching time.

11.00 – 11.50 Session 2

11.50 – 12.30 Key Stage 3 & 4 (except Year 11 students)  

This is teaching time, self-help and independence social, communication.

P16 have lunch time clubs and leisure time.

12.30 P16  and Y11 students have lunch - this is teaching time, self-help and independence social, communication and a transition opportunity for students who will move up to P16..

KS3 & 4 have lunch time clubs and leisure time.

13.10 – 14.00 Session 3

14.00 – 15.00 Session 4

15.00 -15.15 preparation for home, review of the day, writing home school diaries.
